Q&A

Q1. What is an appropriate peel strength for easy-peel resin? Does it vary depending on the application?

A. The peel strength required for easy-peel resins is generally designed to be in the range of approximately 4 to 15 N/15 mm. Peel strength varies depending on the application; for example, lids for jelly and pudding cups require a lower peel strength that allows for easy opening with a light touch, while lid films for retort foods and instant noodles require a higher setting to maintain airtightness. Modic™ Peelable allows you to tune the peel strength by adjusting the heat seal temperature (140 to 180°C), pressure, and time, so you can achieve the optimal opening feel for each application.

Q2. What are the differences between the three types of Modic™ Peelable—X, Y, and Z? Which one should I choose?

A. The main difference between the three types lies in the type of substrate (container material) to which the product is attached.

X-type PP (polypropylene) container High heat resistance, suitable for retort processing (above 121°C)

Y-type PE (polyethylene) container / PE coated paper Smooth release, boilable

Z-type: Multi-compatible with PS, PET, PVC, PP, etc. Highly versatile and transparent.

As a general rule, you should first check the container material and select the appropriate type. The Z type is suitable when the substrate consists of multiple materials or when the container is made of PS or PET. If you are unsure which type to choose, we recommend consulting our technical support team.

Q3. Can Modic™ Peelable be used not only in Japan but also for food packaging destined for overseas markets? Please tell us about food contact compliance in each country.

A. Modic™ Peelable offers a range of regulatory-compliant grades for global markets, including grades compliant with the Positive List System under Japan's Food Sanitation Act, U.S. FDA regulations, EU Regulation No. 10/2011 (PIM), and China's GB standards. As food contact material regulations are frequently updated, it is important to confirm the latest requirements in each target market. Additional grades may also be available depending on the application and market. Please contact your sales representative for details.
